Scene opens with Daos teacher, Ah Liang (the one that poured soda on Dao in MG) having a tire problem with his car in the streets. Hes trying to change the flat tire when he gets up suddenly and collided with Daos on coming bicycle. When he took a closer look, he noticed that it was Dao, so he got nervous and scared.
Ah Liang (stuttering): Master Dao Dao Ming Si.
Dao (looking at him): You know me?
Ah Liang: How can I not know you? Im your teacher.
Dao: Teacher?
Ah Liang nods his head and fixes his tie. Dao looks at the spare tire on the ground.
Dao: Whats wrong with your car?
Ah Liang (stammering): Flat flat tire.
Dao helps him change the tire while Ah Liang is kneeling beside Dao the whole time shocked.
Ah Liang (nervous): Master Dao, I think this low class work should be done by myself. Dont need to bother you.
Dao: Its not a bother. Students should help teachers change a tire.
Ah Liang (has a really scared face on): No, no shouldnt. Its really not necessary.
Dao: Teacher, why are you so scared of me?
Ah Liang (denying while looking more and more nervous): Not scared Im not scared. (nervous laugh). Ah Liang starts twisting his tie around and around in his hands, a sure sign of nervousness.
Dao (looking at him twisting his tie): Then why are you so nervous that you are doing that.
Ah Liang (looks down and quickly unwinds his hand from the tie): Im not nervous. (mumbling to the side) Im afraid that when the day you get your memory back, youll remember that youve helped me change a tire, then Im really going to be dead.
Dao: What?
Ah Liang: Huh? No, nothing! Nothing, nothing.
Dao pulls the flat tire out and stands up carrying it. Ah Liang quickly helps him to carry it.
Dao (stopping all of a sudden, still holding onto the tire): Eh, youre stepping on me.
Ah Liang (his hands on the tire, looking like he was going to have a heart attack): Im stepping on you? Oh, Im sorry. Dont move dont move. Ah Liang quickly drops to his knees and cleans the shoe that he stepped on with his tie.
Dao (looking down at him, shocked): Teacher, what are you doing?
Ah Liang: Im cleaning your shoe for you.
Dao (reaches down to pull him up): Why are you cleaning my shoe?
Ah Liang (getting up): Im helping you clean your shoe, clean your shoe.
Dao: You dont have to help me clean my shoe.
Ah Liang: Nothing. Its really nothing. Its always been like this. This has been an agreement thats between you and I. Ha, ha. Agreement.
Dao: Agreement? I use to ask you to clean my shoes all the time? I was really that demanding/forceful?
Ah Liang (not sure how to answer the question, stammering): No not demanding/forceful. Not demanding at all. (shaking head) Not demanding.
Dao: Speak the truth ok?
Dao and Ah Liang both sit by the roadside next to the car each with a soda.
Ah Liang: Master Dao. You really cant remember even a little?
Dao: Ah Liang Teacher.
Ah Liang: Oh, dont dare, dont dare.
Dao (smiling): You dont have to keep on saying dont dare, dont dare ok?
Ah Liang: Oh, ok, no problem, no problem.
Dao: In the past could I have been actually I have a question that I want to ask you.
Ah Liang: Dont dare, dont (seeing his mistake and catching himself) If youre not in a hurry then ask away. Ask.
Dao: The old me and the new me, which do you feel is better?
Ah Liang: Of course, its its do I have to answer?
Dao: Of course or else why would I ask you?
Ah Liang: Oh, answer. How do I say this? The new you the new you is more cordial, warm, social able. Its like youve taken off the demanding cloak that you use to wear. Something like that.
Dao (thinking and smiling): Oh, I understand. Thank you teacher.
Ah Liang: No, no. Dont say that Master Dao. Dont have to thank me.
Dao: Can I ask you for your help again?
Ah Liang: Yes, yes. Just tell me and I will take care of it.
Dao: Can you stop calling me master?
Ah Liang (shocked): Huh? Dont call master? Ok, ok. (laughing)
Dao: What are you laughing at?
Ah Liang: Nothing. Its like this, Ive never thought that I would one day sit with Master Dao on the street and talk. (laughing)
Dao: Oh right, where is teacher going later?
Ah Liang: Oh, Im driving to a dinner. Thats why Im all dressed up today.
Dao: Really?
Ah Liang: A good friend is getting married. Where where are you going?
Dao: I was going to buy groceries.
Ah Liang: Buy groceries?
Dao and Ah Liang continue sitting on the street drinking and talking.
San Cai is just waking up from her sleep and was lying on the bed when her cell phone rang. It was Lei calling.
San Cai (picking the cell phone): Hello?
Lei: How was your sleep last night?
San Cai: With you guys good wishes, of course I had a good sleep. (pause) Hey, why are you awake so early?
Lei: Because all of a sudden I miss Ying De.
San Cais mom and dad is outside in the living room. Dad is eating and mom is counting money.
Dad (pointing to the money): Almost?
Mom: What almost? Theres still not enough!
Dad: How can that be?
Mom (wishful face): If Dao is here then thats good.
Dad: Youre right. (pause) No, wife its no problem. Today when the car is sold, Ill have the bonus money.
Mom: But what if
Dad: No, no what ifs. This time it will be successful.
Mom: Right. For San Cais tuition, it have to be successful.
Dad nods his head.
Mom / Dad (together): That is a definite!
Then they hear San Cai coming into the living and both quickly sat back down and pretended to be doing something.
San Cai (coming into the living room): Pa, ma, Im meeting Hua Ze Lei, so Im going out now.
Dad: Ok, ok.
Mom (after San Cai walks away, starts talking slowly to dad): Dad, did you hear who is San Cai going to meet?
Dad (talking slowly): Should be Hua Ze master.
Mom (pronouncing each word slowly): Hua Ze master?
Dad: Yes Hua Ze master.
Mom: You are saying that in our San Cais life, even though theres no Dao master, but theres still a
Dad (excited): Handsome and good looking, lovable and caring, very generous
Mom / Dad (together, loudly): HUA ZE MASTER!
Both are very happy and grabbed onto each others hands.
Mom (happy): Dad, this is very good. Do you feel that this room has suddenly became very bright?
Dad (happy): We dont even need to use light from now on! Because theres a million watt light that is shining on us!
Mom (very excited): Didnt know that our good daughter San Cais future is so bright! (rapidly blinking her eyes) I cant open up my eyes now!
Dad (rapidly blinking eyes also): Me too. Its hurting my eyes.
Mom: Too bright!
Dad: Too wonderful!
Both laughs crazily and hugs each other.
Lei & San Cai is sitting on the ledge at the rooftop of Ying De University, the place that they use to go to in MG1.
San Cai (looking up at the sky): Didnt know that after you guys graduated, the sky is still so blue.
Lei (also looking up): Yes. Feel so unsatisfied. Thought that Ying Des sky would be less blue.
San Cai (smiling): Strange. In the past, you guys are always bullying me and now Im cherishing the memory of those days when we were in school.
Lei: From your words, I feel it too.
San Cai (looks at Lei): Then youll have to come back to visit often. We can look at the sky together.
Lei (solemnly): San Cai, Im taking an afternoon flight to Japan later.
San Cai (turns back to look at Lei, with a sad expression): How long will you be gone?
Lei: Dont know. (pause) Dont worry about me. (pause) Didnt you just promised me?
San Cai (trying to act brave): Im ok. Just that I suddenly feel so lonely. Dont know where Dao is now and you have to leave. So graduating is graduating. We cant all be like we use to be.
Lei gets off the ledge to stand in front of San Cai and pinches her cheek.
San Cai (holding her cheek): What are you doing?
Lei: Did you notice that your expressions are less now? You use to have a lot of different expressions. When you are happy, you would of course laugh. When you are angry, you yell. (remembering) When we first met up here on the rooftop, werent you also standing up here yelling at us, F4?
San Cai (smiling): You still remember?
Lei: Do you want to yell again?
San Cai: Now? Im not angry so why would I yell at you guys?
Lei: We should be yelled at. If we didnt come into your life, you should now be a very hardworking, very happy studying, weed San Cai. (pause) I really miss the San Cai that use to yell at people.
San Cai: I use to really love yelling at people. I forgot how I was yelling at you guys then.
Lei (smiling): You wish that we spend so much money that we would go bankrupt. High cholesterol so that we get so fat we die from it. And then to go to hell after dying. Also you called us F4, pig head four.
San Cai (yelling): Pig head four! (she runs over to the opposite ledge and shouts out all the while starting to cry) You stupid fools! I curse you all! Wish that every day you are so happy that the bloods runs up to your brains and the blood vessels break, especially big pig head, Dao! I curse you to get tripped over by eggs and get hit by the meteor star until you get your memory back! I want you to run, crawl, back to me now! Also Lei. I curse you that you sleep so much every day that your arms and legs dont have strength! Everyday have a nightmare and dream that Im yelling at you!
Lei (coming up behind San Cai): Yelling what?
San Cai (turning around to look at Lei): Yell at you. Yell at you that if you dont hurry up and come back to Taipei, then I will fly over to Japan and shave your head for you until you are bald.
Lei (smiling): Remember. It doesnt matter what problems you face in the future, you have to take out that brave yelling expression to face the problem. Thats the San Cai I know. (pause) I didnt hear.
San Cai (confused): Hear what?
Lei: Hear your promise to me.
San Cai (smiling, turned to yell at sky): God, please take notice, San Cai promises from now on not to make Lei worry again!
They continue standing there staring at the scenery.
San Cai is riding on a bus. When the bus stops to pick up more passengers, Michelle gets on. There was a guy on the bus that was standing a couple of feet away from San Cai. San Cai witnesses the guy putting his hand out and touching the behind of a girl standing next to him. The girl then moves away from the guy to stand in front of where Michelle is sitting, but he follows her to stand next to her. As he puts out his hand to rub her behind again, Michelle also witnesses his actions. Michelle gives him a nasty look while a couple of feet away, San Cai is also giving him dirty looks. As San Cai makes a move to go over to the guy, Michelle suddenly punches him on the chin.
Michelle: What are you doing?
Guy (falling back): Why are you hitting people?
At that moment San Cai comes up to him and gives him another punch. Michelle stands up from her seat and pushes the guy away in disgust.
Guy: Why are you hitting people? Im calling the police!
San Cai then looks at Michelle and smiles. Michelle also smiles back. San Cai and Michelle are together at a fast food restaurant.
San Cai (finishes giving her order to the guy behind the counter): Ok, thats it. Thank you.
Michelle and San Cai then stood there waiting for a table to clear.
Michelle: San Cai is a type of vegetable that we often eat?
San Cai: Oh, no thats not it. Actually, San Cai is like a type of weed, like the type that no matter how hard people step on it, when spring comes, it will grow again.
Michelle: Wow, a name thats full of life! Im Ya Sha.
San Cai: Your last name is Ya?
Michelle: No, Ya Sha means Elsa.
San Cai: Oh, Ya Sha.
The table in front of them cleared and they both go over and sits down.
San Cai: A name that sounds very nice. Is there any special meaning to it?
Michelle: Well in the Si Bo La language, Elsa means An agreement with God.
San Cai: Thats so special. (smiling) An agreement with God. Then whats the agreement on?
Michelle: Thats a secret.
San Cai nods her head.
Michelle (laughing): Im so happy I met you, San Cai.
San Cai: Im also happy to have met you, Ya Sha.
The waiter comes by with 2 fruit slushies.
Waiter: 2 fruit slushies. Please pay first.
Michelle / San Cai: Ok. Both girls reach for their money.
San Cai (stopping Michelle): Hey, let me pay for it. Treat it as a present to welcome you to Taiwan.
Michelle: Ok. Thank you.
San Cai (hands the money to the waiter): Thank you.
They both pick up the spoon and start eating.
Michelle: San Cai, let me ask you a question. Does your hand hurt?
San Cai (putting the spoon down and shakes out her hand, laughing): Hurts. Hurts very much.
Michelle (laughing): Mine too! Cant believe that I would meet a girl that would use a fist like me. But then your boyfriend must really respect you.
San Cai grows silent, stopped eating and puts her spoon down. She gets up out of her seat and goes to get some napkins.
Michelle (noticing something wrong): Im sorry. I said the wrong thing.
San Cai (sitting back down): Eh, no. (she hands Michelle a napkin) Here, for you.
Michelle (taking the napkin): Thank you.
San Cai: Well, what about you? Your boyfriend must really respect you, right?
Michelle: I dont have a boyfriend. Ill tell you secretly, Ive never been in love.
San Cai (surprise): Youre lying. Youre so pretty, your character is so cute, I dont believe that no one has ever asked you out.
Michelle (laughing): Its the truth.
San Cai: I dont believe you.
Michelle: What kind of feeling is it to love a person?
San Cai (smiling): To love a person when you fall in love with a person, no matter what happens, the first thing you would think about is him. When you think about him, your heart would beat faster. (pauses, the smile gone from her face) When you lose him, your heart feels like theres a hole in it. Doesnt matter where you are, what youre doing, there will always be a wound that you cant see or touch, that would silently hurt.
Michelle (sees San Cais sad face): Youve been in love before?
San Cai doesnt answer and just smiles. At this moment, the waiter comes back with the change. San Cai (to waiter, picking up change): Thank you. San Cai (putting her change away): Hey, I forgot that I have to go to work.
Michelle: Where are you going to work?
San Cai: I work in a pastry shop.
Michelle (looking at her): Pastry shop?
San Cai starts eating really fast.
Michelle (looking at her): Are you in a hurry?
San Cai nods her head because her mouth is full.
Michelle: May I go with you?
San Cai mumbles an agreement and Michelle mumbles back, both eating very fast.
At the pastry shop, Michelle is looking all around.
San Cai: How is it?
Michelle: Its a very cute shop.
San Cai (pours a glass of water and hands it to Michelle): Here.
Michelle (taking it): Thank you. (looks at San Cais uniform up and down) Even the uniform is so cute. It must be really lucky to be working here.
San Cai (mopping the floor): Right. I also feel that way. But the other workers dont think this way, so our shop constantly doesnt have enough help.
Michelle (thinking): Not enough help? Then may I work here?
San Cai (pauses from mopping): You really want to work here?
Michelle: Yes.
San Cai: Then Ill speak to Lao Ban Niang about it.
Michelle (happy): Ok. Thats great. I have to rush home and tell Ah Sing about it.
San Cai (looks up from mopping again): Ah Sing? The first thing you think about is to tell Ah Sing. Whos Ah Sing?
Michelle: Eh, its a wandering dog.
San Cai: A wandering dog?
Michelle: Hes lost so the only thing I can do is look after him. One day, Ill bring him to see you.
San Cai: Ok, ok. (thinking that it really was a dog) Well, then is it a male or female?
Michelle (smiling slightly): Male.
San Cai: Is he violent?
Michelle: Sometimes. Michelle is back at the apartment telling Dao about the job offer through the bathroom door.
Michelle: $80 an hour and this pastry shop is really cute. My new friend is also very cute. Hey, you should come and take a look. Ill introduce the two of you.
Dao (walks out of bathroom, with a towel around his neck): Ok.
Michelle: Come tomorrow.
Dao: Whats the rush?
Michelle: San Cai is really very good. I have a feeling that you will definitely like her.
Dao: San Cai? (pauses thinking) What a weird name.
Michelle (defends San Cai): Then to be called Dao is not weird?
Dao: Ok, ok. Ill pick you up from work tomorrow ok?
Michelle: You said it. Dont lie to me.
Dao: Ok, already. Dont you have to go to work early tomorrow? Hurry up and go to sleep.
Michelle: I dont want to.
Dao: Hurry up and go.
Michelle: No.
Dao: If you still dont go, Ill beat you.
Michelle gets up and goes over to the bed, but then jumps back up and walks over to the calendar and writes, Meet San Cai. on the calendar for that day. Then she gets into bed.
Dao (walks over): Have to cover with a blanket or will catch a cold. Little kid. He helps her with the blanket then sits down on the foot of the bed. Suddenly, Michelle sits up, clutching her stomach, groaning in pain and grabbing Daos arm. Dao thought she was still fooling around.
Dao (brushes her hand away, with back to Michelle): Stop playing ok? Go to sleep. (pauses, looking at Michelle) Ya Sha. (sees her groaning in pain) Ya Sha! He grabs her by the shoulders. Dao: Are you in pain again? (he quickly runs to get her bag and brings it back to the bed) Where did you put the medicine? Is it inside your bag? Where inside your bag? Dao frantically searches inside the bag, then turns it upside down on the bed and shakes everything out. Dao (frantic): Wheres your medicine?
Michelle cant answer him because she was in too much pain.
Dao (grabbing her shoulders again): Ya Sha! Does it hurt very much? Wait a minute, wait a minute Dao runs away quickly. Michelle tries to stop him and falls off the bed and fainted. Dao ran outside to a store. Dao (hitting against the pulled down gate and shouted): Hey open up! I have to buy medicine! Hey!
Voice from inside: Its so late, stop your shouting.
Dao: My sister is in pain and I need to buy some pain killers!
Voice: What time is it already. Whos going to sell medicine? Send her to the emergency room.
Dao (angry): Who cares about the time! Wheres the emergency room?
Voice: Stupid, at the hospital.
Dao quickly runs back home. When he gets home, he finds Michelle and Grandma sitting by the table talking. Dao (running up the stairs): Ya Sha! Ya Sha! Ill bring you to (he stops when he sees Michelle all better and Grandma there.)
Michelle (talking happily to Grandma): Lets all go to Kan Ting ok? Lets find a day, Grandma, me and Ah Sing, and go to Kan Ting. To look at the sea, look at the sky full of stars. How about it Grandma?
Grandma: Say it again? Dont talk to me about promises and all.
Michelle: I want to talk about promises and stuff.
Grandma (getting up): What are you saying? You foreigners dont make any sense.
Michelle (smiling): Its a deal. Well find time to go to Kan Ting.
Dao (walks into the room): Go to the hospital with me.
Michelle (looking up at Dao): I took the pain killers from Grandma and its not hurting now.
Grandma: Pain killers are only for a short term and not for a long term. (then she walks out)
Dao: Did you hear? Go with me to the hospital, get it checked.
Michelle: Are you nuts? Didnt I tell you Im fine now? It doesnt hurt anymore.
Dao: You were in such pain before and now you say it doesnt hurt. Last time at the winery it was the same thing.
Michelle: Girls having pains once in a while is very normal, ok?
Dao: Not ok.
Michelle: If its not ok, then forget it. (turning away from Dao) I hate going to the hospital.
Dao (quietly): Im really going to get mad.
Michelle (looking back at him): Youre really going to get mad? (pause) Really. I understand my body very well. It wants to hurt a little but its ok. Its not a big deal. Dont be mad.
Dao doesnt answer and looks away. Michelle reaches over the table and grabs a hold of a coconut lantern.
Michelle (talking to the coconut): Rotten egg, what to do? Ah Sing is mad. Ah Sings face when hes mad is very scary. Im really scared. Then she looks down and sees that Dao didnt have any shoes on. Michelle: Your feet. (pause) You ran out without putting your shoes on? (putting down the coconut) Dont move. (she picks up her drawing pad) Dont move. Let me borrow your feet.
Dao: What are you doing?
Michelle (pointing to her drawing pad): Step here. (Dao follows) Thank you. She makes him imprint a picture of his foot on the pad. Then she writes on the drawing pad next to the imprint: The foot of Ah Sings, who, because of helping Ya Sha to buy medicine and forgot to wear shoes. Michelle (getting up to stand in front of Dao): Please dont be mad. I promise you. If I hurt next time, Ill go to the hospital to check it out. Dont be mad.
Dao: Do you know why Im mad? (he holds onto her hand) Because you scared me before. Im really afraid to lose you do you know? Doesnt matter who I am now, but I want you to know something. (pause, voice filled with emotion) I care about you. (he pulls her to him and hugs her tightly) I will take really good care of you. I want to be with you forever. They continue standing there hugging each other.
Next morning, San Cai wakes up and sits there staring at the lights again. She then packs up her things to go out. San Cais mom is helping dad with practicing how to sell cars in the living room. Dad is dressed up with a tie and mom walks through the door in a dress holding a purse.
Dad: Welcome. Mrs. Do you want to buy a car?
Mom hits him on the head with her hand and dad cries out, Ow.
Mom: Call me Miss. If you want to do well with female customers, then you have to remember that they are pretty and young. Now if you want to do well with male customers, then you have to say that they are handsome and rich. Understand?
Dad: Ok. I understand. Now mom, lets try again.
Mom: No wonder you couldnt sell any cars.
Dad: Oh, give me another chance.
Mom: Miss.
The phone rings at that minute and mom picks up.
Mom (sweet soft voice): This is sweet San Cais home. Oh, hi, Lao Ban Niang. Yes, shes here. Just a minute. (turns and yells very loudly) San Cai, phone! (turns back to speak softly on the phone again) Lao Ban Niang, thank you for watching San Cai all the time. Please come to visit when you have time, ok? (mom hands the phone to San Cai)
San Cai: Hello, Lao Ban Niang. Yes, Im coming now. Buy oranges. How many should I buy? Ok, no problem. Bye. San Cai hangs up and walks over to mom who is looking at a toy car.
San Cai: Ma, ma.
Mom (looking at the car): San Cai, look, do you think this car is suitable for me to drive? (pointing) This one?
Dad: Of course, its suitable. I said Mrs (Mom corrects him, Miss) Miss this is our newest model of car. The style of the car is very nice and also is the most popular color this year, silver. The car looks very good with the two of you, very high class, very beautiful. The two of you looks so much like two beautiful sisters. Like SOS from television. This car is most suitable for you to buy. Theres no one else that is more suitable than you two.
San Cai: What are you two doing?
Mom / Dad (together): We are practicing.
San Cai: Practicing?
Mom: Its all because your dads experience with selling cars is so little. So being the mom, I have to help him practice or else how can he sell cars?
Dad: San Cai. What did you think about dads performance before?
San Cai: Pa, you are so hard working. I believe that this months bonus would be very good.
Dad: Yah! Mom did you hear? With San Cais words, I feel that Im filled with confidence. I believe that this months bonus would be a new level!
San Cai: But Pa, I believe that selling cars, you have to be a little more mature. Please dont say anything like very high class, very beautiful, those touchy words in order to get to the customer.
Dad: Is it really dramatic? San Cai, do you feel that saying that is too dramatic? But at your moms age, she still wants me to call her Miss that I feel was too dramatic. (mom makes some noise in the background and dad quickly changes the subject) San Cai, do you have an suggestions about selling cars?
San Cai: Eh, actually I dont really know much about it.
Dad: Oh.
San Cai: But from my experience with selling cakes, the first thing we ask is the reason why the customer wants to buy the cake. Do they want to give it as a gift or eat it themselves or is it for a party or a birthday? This way its easier to suggest a flavor to them. So dad, you can ask the customers why they want to buy the car. Find out about the customers needs, then it would be easier to convince them.
Dad: Yes, San Cai is right.
Mom: San Cai, you are very smart. Thats my good girl.
Dad: Right. San Cai is the smartest. Mama, well follow San Cais suggestion and try again.
San Cai: Dad then you jiao you. Im off to work now. Bye. San Cai leaves and her parents continue with their practicing.
Back at the Orange Café, Yi Ling is once again looking into a mirror. Da Xin is listening to his discman and moving to the music. Dao is getting ready to leave when Da Xin grabbed his arm and handed him an earphone.
Da Xin: Listen to it.
Dao listens to it for a few seconds then hands it back to Da Xin.
Da Xin: How is it?
Dao: Not bad. (he tries to walk away again)
Da Xin: Wait wait this part is the best. (he hands the earphone back to Dao)
Dao puts it in his ear and listens again, then gives it back to Da Xin. Dao: Not bad.
Da Xin: Hey, whats the hurry?
Ah Lun (overhearing): Hey, what business is yours?
Da Xin: Im just concerned about him.
Yi Ling (calling out): He told Ya Sha that he would pick her up from the pastry shop.
Da Xin (understanding): Oh (hands Dao the discman) Take it with you to listen.
Dao had no choice but to take it.
Da Xin (calling after Dao): Hey remember to report back to me! (talking to himself) I should hurry up and find a girlfriend. If I act more serious then I could be like him. (sighs) And also can get off work early too. Thats so good.
Ah Lun (walks up to Da Xin): You dare?
Da Xin: Hey, you are so unfair.
Ah Lun: I care about you. (pause) Because you're my best friend.
Da Xin (hitting himself on his chest): Ill listen to you.
Ah Lun: Really?
Da Xin: I promise.
Ah Lun: Go wash the dishes.
Da Xin: Huh?
Ah Lun (reminding Da Xin): We are friends. Good friends.
Da Xin: You are so unfair. Da Xin walks away toward the back and Ah Lun starts laughing.
Ah Lun (pulling Yi Ling next to him): Wife look at how beautiful the sunset is. He starts laughing loudly while Yi Ling stands with her arms crossed.
Yi Ling: Its only mid afternoon, so wheres the sunset?
San Cai is slowly walking back to the pastry shop with the bag of oranges. Dao is standing about a block away from her, staring at some pictures on a billboard, with the earphone on. San Cai looks up and sees the back of Dao and stood there staring at him. Dao slowly walks to the left side and San Cai follows, slowly walking to her left too but not moving forward. She stands there for a few seconds more, staring, then starts to slowly walk forward toward Dao as if afraid the image in front of her would fade away. Dao on the other hand, sees the bus and starts running. San Cai seeing him running, she started to run too. As Dao runs toward the bus, San Cai is running after him in the back. Once Dao got on the bus, he was standing, facing the right side of the bus. San Cai finally catching up, didnt get on the bus, but walked to the side of the bus and looked in. She peers at Dao through the windows and finally seeing his whole face, she was shocked. San Cai (finally waking up from her shock, cries out softly): Dao. (more loudly) Dao!
Dao didnt hear her calling because he was listening to the discman that Da Xin lent him early. He found a seat and sat down. San Cai runs up to the side of the bus where Dao is sitting and knocks on the side of the bus. However, the bus starts moving.
San Cai (yelling): Dao. Dao Ming Si.
The bus is moving faster and San Cai started chasing the bus all the while calling out Daos name. The bag of oranges started falling out of the bag and eventually San Cai let go of the bag to run faster after the bus. San Cai couldnt catch up and dropped down in the middle of the road on her knees and started crying uncontrollably.
Later, San Cai is riding on the bus and remembering the time when Dao ran after the bus to try to get to her. San Cai (thinking): It feels like it was only yesterday that Dao was running after the bus that was carrying me. Running for such a long road. From Taipei to Barcelona. No matter how bitter, no matter how tired. He finally made me get off the bus. I only just realize how strong his body is. This time, its me chasing after Dao, no matter from Taipei to wherever, I have to chase him back.
Dao arrives at the shop to pick Michelle up.
Michelle (coming out from the back of the shop and calling out): Lao Ban Niang, goodbye.
Dao (seeing Michelle): Hey hurry up.
Michelle: Whats the hurry?
Dao: Aiyo.
Michelle (walking around the cake display case): Hey, why is San Cai not here yet? Ive been waiting for her.
Dao (putting his arms around her shoulders): Well find another day to meet, theres plenty of time. Hurry.
Dao & YS returns back to the first house they stayed in.
Michelle (following Dao up the stairs): Why are we coming back here for?
Dao (stopped and turned around to face her): Come back to get your drawing stuff.
Michelle: Why?
Dao: You every time you draw something, you throw the crayons and pencils aside. There should be a lot of crayons and pencils here.
Michelle: Right.
Dao (continuing up the stairs): Lately the drawings dont have much color in it.
They walk through the door and finds stuff all over the floor.
Dao (kneeling down): Look, you forget to put things away every time. I have to put it away for you. Dao is picking stuff up from the floor and Michelle is staring off to the opposite wall. Dao gets up and sees Michelle standing there. Dao: Hey, I was talking to you. Did you hear? (he takes her hand and puts her crayons in it) Your crayons. (noticing that Michelle wasnt moving) What are you staring Dao turns his head, his voice trailing off and notices the writings on the wall.
Michelle: Theres someone thats waiting for you. Someone that seems to love no, should say, its definite that this person loves you very much.
Dao just continues staring at the wall.
Michelle: You are not the only one that is wandering - the love that she has for you is also wandering.
Dao still stares at the wall, then turns to look at Michelle, but finds her gone. He stood there and seem to see San Cai writing on the wall and hear her voice calling out his name. He started hitting his head as though in pain. Then he slowly walks over to the wall and leans on it.
